Model Predictive Control at Sea
On 19 October 2026, TF-100 ran waypoint and survey missions under model predictive control. Station-keeping trials followed on 19 and 20 October.

On 19 October 2026, TF-100 ran waypoint and survey missions in Kaohsiung under model predictive control. The track at the top of this page was recorded during one of those survey missions.
Looking a few seconds ahead
A model predictive controller carries a model of the vessel: how the hull and the two outboards respond to steering and thrust. It uses that model to predict how TF-100 will move over the next few seconds, and chooses the steering and thrust that keep the vessel on its planned path.
It also takes the wind into account. Rather than only correcting an error once it has appeared, the controller plans for where the vessel is about to be.
Holding position
On 19 and 20 October we also trialled station-keeping: TF-100 holding a set position and heading on the water, with no one steering it.
Next
These were sea trials. The data recorded on board during these runs feeds the next round of tuning, and testing continues.
